Elegance on the violin, minstrelsy on the fiddle - the violin has many sides and strings. Hardly anyone knows this better than Tomo Keller, director and concertmaster of the famous Academy of St Martin in the Fields. He returns to the NPW with an early string symphony by the very young Felix Mendelssohn and makes his Stradivarius sound in Mozart's third violin concerto. In the Divertimento for string orchestra, Béla Bartók once again evokes the powerful folk music of his native Hungary: sometimes playful and fiery, sometimes melancholy in tone.
