Niki de Saint Phalle (original title Niki), directed by Céline Sallette, is a 2024 film biography about the painter and sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle. In 1952, Niki de Saint Phalle returned from the USA to Paris to earn a living for herself and her family as an actress and model. Her husband Harry Mathews studied music and dreamed of a career as a writer. She suffers from panic attacks, among other things. When her husband discovers knives hidden under her mattress, she agrees to treatment in a psychiatric clinic. There she discovers the healing effect of art. After her release, she intensifies her artistic work. In flashbacks, Salette hints at the abuse de Saint Phalle experienced in her childhood, which no one wanted to believe for a long time. Even when the head of a psychiatric ward holds a written confession from her father in his hands, he prefers to burn it rather than believe her. Only her acquaintance with the group of artists around Tinguely enabled de Saint Phalle to really take herself seriously as an artist and no longer as a "housewife who paints as a hobby", as she was once described by a rival.

A courageous and in any case very special film that fits in perfectly with the special concept of the FaTZ and the Living Museum Neckargemünd with its revolutionary explosive force. It was therefore very easy for us to decide to present this interesting film. But you decide for yourself!
