When it was founded, the niq collective set itself the goal of creating a networking and exchange platform for Munich musicians and at the same time establishing a connection to the supra-regional jazz and improvised music scene. niq aims to strengthen the visibility of Munich artists both in the city and beyond, promote exchange and share knowledge.

With the niq/exchange concert format, this idea is now entering its second round: on November 18, 2025, another public concert will take place in the Black Box at Fat Cat (formerly Gasteig).

The guests will be the Cologne band HILDE, consisting of four distinguished musicians who work as a collective with uncompromising consistency. Their music is radical in its listening and reacting, characterized by exciting contrasts between compression and dissolution. With its unusual line-up of cello, violin, trombone and vocals, HILDE moves confidently between improvised music, jazz and contemporary sound languages - creating a form of expression that captivates both emotionally and intellectually.

The Munich-based Katharina Pfeifer Trio will play as the second ensemble. The band opens up sound spaces of great transparency and emotional depth. Their music combines a strong melodic signature with the freedom of improvisational processes - sensitive, clear and full of surprises.

The special thing about this format: as the name niq/exchange suggests, the focus is on musical exchange. The transitions between the acts are fluid - what emerges is entirely up to the artists.
