Nootje Palmers. Menschen des 21. Jahhunderts

With "Noortje Palmers. People of the 21st Century", the Osthaus Museum is showing the first solo museum exhibition of Flemish photographer Noortje Palmers (*1987) in Germany.

Palmers is one of the few contemporary artists to focus on the genre of contemporary group portraits. The groups she photographs are partly communities that the artist seeks out and partly people who only come together as a group through the photographer. She portrays people who know or could know each other through their shared commitment to a cause or a shared hobby, such as vinyl collectors, scooter skaters or model ship builders, but also people who have something in common more by chance.

Palmers works together with the people she portrays, wins them over for her project and brings them into contact across generations, regardless of age, origin and social status. One hundred years after August Sander formulated the legendary photo project "People of the 20th Century", she thus presents a highly topical view of the people of our present day.

Three works with Hagen residents will be created in Hagen this summer especially for her exhibition at the Osthaus Museum, which will be presented alongside other works by the artist in the museum's central exhibition rooms.
