Sunday 16.12.: Culinary cinema

If Cécile's (Juliette Armanet) life were a recipe, it would have far too many ingredients! The aspiring gourmet chef and her partner Sofiane (Tewfik Jallab) are two weeks away from opening their first restaurant in Paris. What she is still missing is the one crucial signature dish. In the middle of her preparations, she receives the news that her father Gérard (François Rollin) has suffered his third heart attack. Without further ado, she travels back - at least for a day - to the sleepy backwater of her childhood. But the visit turns out differently than planned. Her mother Fanfan (Dominique Blanc) is struggling with the family's truck stop on the highway, where French fries are a fixed menu item. Gérard, a passionate cook like his daughter, has discharged himself from hospital. And then there is Raphaël (Bastien Bouillon), Cécile's childhood sweetheart, who stirs up old feelings. Between the deep-fat fryer, memories and new questions, Cécile's life begins to totter. A single day - and nothing is quite as clear as before.

The tragicomedy ONLY FOR ONE DAY opened this year's Cannes Film Festival with a debut film for the first time.
