Offene Führung: Neuordnung Mahnmal St. Nikolai

In the organizer's words:

The St. Nikolai Memorial is about to undergo significant changes: by 2028, it will be spatially reorganized and functionally expanded with additional buildings.

The ruins of the former main church, parts of which were destroyed in 1943, now serve as a museum and a place of remembrance and commemoration. The reorganization, financed in part by funds from the National Urban Development Projects 2024, will integrate the memorial perfectly into the surrounding public space and give it an inviting character. At the same time, it will remain preserved and recognizable as a place of remembrance. In the basement, transparent cubes will be created as multifunctional spaces for education and encounters.

In addition to the more recent history of St. Nikolai, the tour focuses on the future of the site. The adjacent public space with the Hopfenmarkt, Willy-Brandt-Straße and the Nikolaiquartier will also be included in the consideration of the reorganization of the area.
