What does homeland mean and how is it created again and again? Migration, memory and cultural interdependencies have shaped the relationship between Germany and Turkey for decades. The recruitment agreement of the 1960s marked the beginning of a phase of intensive migration, from which diverse realities of life and new forms of cultural exchange have emerged over time.
The group exhibition with 16 renowned artists from the Turkish cultural area is dedicated to these multi-layered perspectives. Their works tell of memories and new beginnings, of closeness and distance, of questions of belonging and self-positioning in a globally networked world.
On display are installations, sculptures, textile art, drawings, photographs, videos and more. The works open up emotional and intellectual approaches to themes that touch on an important chapter of the German-Turkish past and present and at the same time pose universal questions about identity, memory and coexistence.
