DJ CEM brings his legendary Ü29 old school party to Knust for the first time
DJ Cem is coming to Hamburg from Cologne on 06.03.2024 - and celebrating his premiere at Knust. What awaits the Hanseatic city is not another old-school playlist party, but a format with history, attitude and musical signature.
While several Ü30 and old-school hip-hop parties are now established in Hamburg, DJ Cem has been pursuing this concept since 2014 - at a time when many of today's formats didn't even exist. His "Oldschool Ü29" series is considered one of the first regular parties of its kind in Germany. It is the result of over two decades of club experience and has grown out of a scene that he himself played a key role in shaping.
15 years of weekly culture - over 1000 nights of exceptionality
DJ Cem is the founder of the legendary "Beatpackers" series, which took place weekly at the Cologne club Subway from 2002 to 2017. Over 1000 editions, international live acts, packed dance floors for over a decade and a half - one of Germany's most successful hip-hop weeklies. While many DJs follow trends, Cem has always consciously opted for musical depth rather than short-lived hypes.
Not a best-of mixtape - but a real DJ set
What sets DJ Cem apart from classic old-school DJs: his sets are not chronologically played 90s playlists. He opens up musical spaces. He mixes old-school hip-hop with the original soul and funk samples from which the beats were created. He combines 90s bangers with their musical roots, plays with breaks, creates surprising transitions and gives tracks a new swing. Between Dr. Dre, A Tribe Called Quest or Missy Elliott, the grooves that made these classics possible in the first place suddenly emerge.
The result: more movement, more energy, more real party. Not a head-nodding event - but a night of dancing all the way through.

Another trademark of his parties: they work. And they are diverse. While many hip-hop events are often male-dominated, DJ Cem's evenings have been known for over 20 years for attracting an extremely dance-loving, mixed crowd - many women in particular celebrate his nights. Why? Because the vibe is right. Because it grooves. Because it's not about macho attitude, but about music and atmosphere.

With his Hamburg premiere at Knust, DJ Cem is not just bringing another Ü29 party to the city - but the original of a format that he has been cultivating for almost a decade.
