Olivia Hyunsin Kim/ ddanddarakim: Baby, I‘m Sick Tonight

From the perspective of a queer woman of color with chronic illness, Olivia Hyunsin Kim experiments with the format of stand-up comedy. Together with other chronically ill artists, she searches for forms of self-empowering humor.

Current discourses critical of capitalism often romanticize or simplify people with chronic illnesses. They are read as resistant bodies that counteract capitalism - for example through other temporalities or the failure of expected productivity - while aspects such as constant pain or the need for crip time are ignored.

Together with her team, Olivia Hyunsin Kim uses dance and narrative to counter stigmatization and prejudice against artists with invisible disabilities or people who are falsely read as healthy. The artists use the means of stand-up, pop and performance in a radically unruly and humorous way to connect the cultural history of hysteria, today's treatment of sick FLINTA*s and the body images of the contemporary dance scene, among other things.

Relaxed performance with audio description, DGS interpretation and surtitles

Language
The performance will be held in German and English spoken language with DGS interpretation.
There are surtitles in German and English written language.
Audio description is available in German spoken language via headphones.

Duration
The performance lasts approx. 90 minutes. There is no official interval, but you can leave and come back in at any time.

Light
The audience is illuminated by colored lights at some points in the play. At one point there is a flashing red alarm.
There are no strobe lights, strobe effects or spotlights directed into the audience.
There are very dark scenes, but the light in the audience area remains dim throughout.

Sound
Some sounds are played at low frequencies (not below 40hz).
A choir will sing live on stage.

Atmosphere
The audience is spontaneously addressed directly in the comedy scenes.
There is no obligation to react to the speech.

Other effects
Foam with a soap-like smell is used.

Premises
All public areas of the Schwankhalle are at ground level and accessible without steps.

There are three different toilets: a barrier-free toilet that can also be used by wheelchair users, a toilet with three toilet cubicles and a toilet with urinals and a toilet cubicle.

The public area is generally seated.

The wheelchair spaces are located in the front row.
Individual requirements such as specific seats, early boarding or an additional ticket for an accompanying person can also be specified when purchasing or reserving tickets.
