On the First Night We Looked at Maps

In the organizer's words:

SPECIAL PROGRAM: BEYOND THE BORDERS

In the middle of the 18th century, over 30,000 people fled from German territories to the Volga within a few years - fleeing war, hunger and persecution. But the promised land did not deliver what it promised.

In this documentary performance with objects, the audience sits at the table with the queer artist couple Vöcks de Schwindt. A personal migration story unfolds via maps and photographs: from the Volga Germans to Russia, a century later on to South America and finally to the first encounter in Berlin. A journey across continents - and the search for a homeland that perhaps never existed.

Federico & Wenzel Vöcks de Schwindt work between autobiographical performance, multilingualism and music theater.
