Onom Agema and The Disco Jumpers feat. Ahmed Ag Kaedy

Afrobeat can be a rather formal, sterile and sometimes even boring affair in the hands of many of Fela Kuti's followers around the world. Fortunately, this is not the case with the oddly named band Onom Agemo: led by restless saxophonist Johannes Schleiermacher, the Berlin-based quintet has pushed the boundaries of the genre to the extreme, integrating explosive jazz improvisations, offbeat krautrock, effervescent keyboard sounds and psychedelia to create a captivating musical melange that is all their own.

Now they are going on tour again, with their old friend, the extraordinary Tuareg guitarist/singer for "Desert Blues", Ahmed Ag Kaedy. He comes from Kidal in war-torn northern Mali and was a soldier as a teenager before picking up an instrument to become a man of peace and music. His own band, Amanar ("starry sky"), is considered one of the most influential voices of the Sahel region's modern, guitar-driven sound.

In spring 2025, Agogo Records will release a new record together, with the German-Malian brotherhood going on tour next summer.
