OXYMORON – SCENTED RUSHES · Musik als märchenhafte Grenzüberschreitung

Old and new. Rigor of form and freedom. Fantasy and logic. Harp and accordion. What seems contradictory at first glance becomes a harmonious whole in DUO OXYMORON 's "Scented Rushes" program. In their debut album and concert program of the same name, harpist Anna Steinkogler and accordionist Valentin Butt create an independent, fascinating universe of sound in which opposites not only coexist but also inspire each other.

With a keen sense of timbre and poetry, they combine elements of jazz, classical, neo-classical, contemporary and world music - always in search of new forms of expression, always with a twinkle in their eye. The music is like a journey through magical intermediate worlds: sometimes delicate and intimate, then again playful, virtuosic and captivating. The familiar is deliberately turned on its head - in the spirit of Lewis Carroll, the spiritual godfather of the evening.

In their mixture of seriousness and humor, in their desire to play with categories and their aversion to stylistic pigeonholing, the two musicians feel connected to the author of the Alice in Wonderland novels. Their music is a homage to Carroll's poetic impartiality and a continuation of his boundary-pushing - this time in sound form.

The program brings different fairytale worlds into conversation with each other: for example Maurice Ravel's famous suite "Ma Mère l'Oye " (Mother Goose), a subtle sound painting that lovingly evokes the poetry of childhood. This is contrasted by the specially composed suite "Scented Rushes " - tailor-made for harp and accordion, rich in colors, rhythms and surprising twists. The tangos of Astor Piazzolla, who himself was a musical border crosser and combined classical form with folkloristic depth, act as a connecting element.

"Scented Rushes" is no ordinary concert, but a musical narrative dialog - clever, playful and beyond all conventions. Those who are prepared to engage with fluid boundaries will be rewarded with an evening that appeals to the head, heart and senses in equal measure.
