Backwater Collage isJames Hoare's first solo album, which he released under the name Penny Arcade. Some of you will have already come across him as a musician/songwriter in bands such as Veronica Falls, The Proper Ornaments or Ultimate Painting.

Much like Jack Name or Syd Barrett - only less psychedelic - Hoare sits on the Velvet Underground 's black and white sofa and gives his album an underground feel. Restless at times but light on its feet, with no unnecessary effects, the record follows in the footsteps of a less noisy but equally raw and unadorned Jesus and Mary Chain.

With Backwater Collage, alone at the helm under a stormy sky, James Hoare invites his listeners to cozy up with a cup of tea.
