By chance, 13-year-old Sarah from the Neuperlach high-rise housing estate in Munich discovers the Finnish sport of "hobby horsing" online, where young people compete in tournaments on hobby horses, and is immediately hooked. Her best friend Dilek finds Sarah's new hobby rather embarrassing, but she is persuaded to take part. When this makes them the laughing stock of the school, Dilek and Sarah fall out. But when Sarah meets Beatrice, a competition rider who suffers under the pressure of her ambitious mother, she finds a new companion. Beatrice trains her, and the two of them travel on their own to the big Hobby Horsing Championships in Finland.
