In PHANTOMA, artist Katharina Anna-Josefine Rausch transforms her intensive research into bodies read as female and pain into a performative exploration between body and tremor. She probes for the unspeakable - the pain that is celebrated, feared, suppressed or remains unheard. Through sound, object and words, fragile spaces are created in which social concepts dissolve:
What does pain look like when it is read as female?
What happens when it speaks instead of being repressed?
PHANTOMA opens up a field between intimacy and analysis, between body knowledge and
social blind spot. Katharina Anna-Josefine Rausch (*1989 Ludwigshafen a. Rhein) is a freelance visual artist and theater maker. She studied fine arts at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe under Prof. John Bock and theater pedagogy at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. Engagements have taken her to the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Schauburg Munich and the Theater Heidelberg. Since 2020, she has been working as a freelance performer, stage and costume designer, director and author for various theaters and collectives in German-speaking countries. She has shown her work at Galerie Ebensperger Berlin, SomoS Arts Berlin, Alte Pinakothek Munich, Karpaten Biennale, Galerie oqbo Berlin, Cool Pool Mannheim, Theater Aachen, Schlachthof Eupen (BE) and Zeitraumexit Mannheim, among others.
In installations, objects, video works and performances, she reaches beyond theatrical narrative mechanisms. Guided by material, she combines personal, digital, ancient and contemporary mythologies and provokes questions about the body, gender and identity.
