Panel discussion: Let's Talk About Money
In everyday life, money initially appears to be merely a means of payment - but in a figurative sense it is much more: it influences personal lives, shapes social power relations and often determines our interactions without us realizing it.
Young adults in Germany in particular experience the influence of money in an impressive way. Many report financial stress and worries about their future. According to a recent study, 27% of 18 to 34-year-olds feel that their enjoyment of life is restricted by financial burdens. 28% are ashamed of their financial situation and even feel the effects on their health. While some struggle with great existential fears, others have considerable financial support - the realities of young people's lives could hardly be more different.
And yet the following still applies to society as a whole: people don't talk about money.
With our "Let's Talk about Money!" project, we want to change exactly that. We invite you to talk openly about money, opportunities and inequalities - from different perspectives and with exciting guests.
The event will kick off with a panel discussion with:
Prof. Dr. Christoph Butterwegge, political scientist and poverty researcher
Dr. Jan Behringer, research associate at the Institute for Macroeconomics and Business Cycle Research (IMK) of the Hans Böckler Foundation
Luka Touon, financial consultant
(further guests to follow)
Moderation: Theresa Gunkel
