Podiumsdiskussion "Zuhause ist ein Gefühl" Kunst und Geschichten des Ankommens

In the organizer's words:

Panel discussion

"Home is a feeling - art and stories of arrival"

Niaz Naseri, Walter Kuhn and Selen Gürler

On Friday, 28.11.2025, admission from 6 pm, start: 7 pm

What does arriving mean and how can art help to put down new roots? Artistic perspectives, biographical experiences and social commitment combine to create a multi-layered conversation about identity, home and the unifying power of art.

In discussion:

Niaz Naseri, Afghan artist and nurse, whose exhibition "Amphoras" is currently on display in the vaulted hall of the Mohr Villa. His works combine traditional Persian-Afghan ornamentation and poetry with modern symbolism - an expression of an artistic examination of memory, loss and the search for inner strength.

Dr. Walter Kuhn, geographer and action artist, known for his installation "Never Again" with the poppies or memorial flowers on Königsplatz. As founder of the KOLIBRI-KUNST-KABINETT and long-time supporter of the KOLIBRI Foundation, he has been committed to international understanding, solidarity and cultural participation for many years.

Selen Gürler, born in Izmir (Turkey), has lived in Germany since the age of six. She studied German and philosophy in Mannheim, lived in Italy for five years and now works in Munich. She has been moderating intercultural events since 2010, is involved in voluntary work and has been writing poetry since her youth - characterized by multilingualism and cultural diversity.

Moderation: Sarah Jaeger, external coordinator of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Youth Advisory Council, has been involved in a wide range of voluntary and political activities at state and national level for many years. She will lead the evening with her experience in political dialog.

The discussion will focus on personal stories of flight and immigration, the question of belonging and how art can build bridges between cultures. How is home created in exile? What role does creativity play as a language beyond borders?

And how can art help to process experiences of loss, homesickness or new beginnings - and thus also build bridges to encounters and understanding with others?
