Präsentation des temporären Lichtkunstwerkes "Leuchten"

In the organizer's words:

The 8th Night of Light Art will take place in the Hellweg region from October 24-26, 2025.

Maja Funke, a student of conceptual artist Mischa Kuball, will be presenting her temporary light installation, which can be seen and above all experienced in Lünen for twelve days. With an accompanying musical program, she will talk about her work and "release" it into the city.

Twelve light objects, twelve small sources of luminous attention - they will wander through Lünen for twelve days. Leuchten is a GPS-based light installation in which citizens create a collective map of the city by wearing lamps.
The light objects are a material reminder of what was and focus attention on what may be overlooked today. Each lamp is battery-operated and equipped with a GPS module. Their position can be viewed at any time on a publicly accessible online map. The technical implementation is carried out in collaboration with Karl Rogel (Busani). This map is not just a technical tool, but the central narrative element of the project: it shows movements, drawings and patterns. It makes visible where the lamps move - and with them the attention of the people.
These light objects do not remain in one place. They are deliberately placed in the hands of visitors and residents - as an invitation to take them to forgotten, abandoned or meaningful places. Places that you only know if you live here, grew up here - or set out to discover the Lost Spaces and Hidden Spaces.
Like the twelve stars of Europe, these light objects refer to community, diversity and hope. The starting point is the Lünen City Museum on Europaplatz on October 25, 2025. After twelve days, permanent drawings are created from the GPS data: an archive of the paths that tell the story of Lünen.

Maja Funke (*1996 in Germany) deals with social and urban space. Her artistic works are created in synergy with her electronic environment and find their form in multimedia translations and investigative performances. She lives and works in Cologne.
