Deutschlandfunk Kultur recalls the Pulsar Trio's music as "sensual states of suspension, the intoxication of free fall and gliding across vast expanses" - a description that also fits the fourth studio album We Smell in Stereo, released in 2023, extremely well. Its cover is adorned with sharks, because sharks don't smell in mono, their sense of smell works in stereo.
On the hunt for the perfect musical moment, the trio acts instinctively as a single organism and with a shared and unerring sense of their very own sound cosmos, developed over the years. The unusual and probably unique combination of drums, piano and sitar enables the trio to constantly explore new musical territory on what is actually a fine line.
The result is always playful and virtuosic, between instrumental ecstasy, intimate introspection and sensitive sound experiments: A fusion of three individual musical characters with very different influences, ranging from pop with a grand gesture to GDR punk and noise, jazz, Bach, minimal music and the classical sitar tradition from India.
The Creole prizewinners have already demonstrated their live qualities at countless concerts. They have performed at the Leverkusen Jazz Festival, the Fusion Festival, Glastonbury, the Rudolstadt Festival, the Delhi International Jazz Festival, the Kulturarena Jena and the İzmir European Jazz Festival.
Matyas Wolter (sitar/bass sitar)
