queeRUHRlanten Schreibwerkstatt: Poetry Slam mit Stef

In the organizer's words:

Poetry slam: bringing literature to the stage!

Poetry slam is now probably the most popular approach to literature for young people. The principle of bringing self-written texts and performances to a stage and having them compete against each other is fun and motivates people to create their own texts and explore literary and performative possibilities.

Slam poet and author Stef imparts knowledge from eleven years of stage work in a simple and understandable way. Whether you have already taken your first steps on stage or have no experience, Stef will provide you with the right tools to find your way around the poetry slam.

The workshop will explain what poetry slam is and participants will learn how to write and perform short texts themselves. Participants will also have the opportunity to be put in touch with local slams by Stef if they enjoy this format.

And who is actually giving the workshop?

Stef (1996, no pronouns) is an artist of Greek origin from Munich, living in Cologne.
Since 2014, Stef has been touring the cabaret stages in German-speaking countries with texts on topics such as queerness and mental health.

Stef has taken part in several North Rhine-Westphalian and German-language poetry slam championships since 2017 and reached the final in the team category at the latter in 2021.

Stef is a graduate of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, reached the shortlist of the Vestische Literatur-Eule in 2021 and won the Hessian Spoken Word Prize in 2022.

As an editor, Stef published the anthologies ''Fantastische Queerwesen und wie sie sich finden'' and "Irre Schön" with Satyr Verlag. 2023 saw the publication of his solo debut "Schwul. Sexy. Depressive - Between Pills, Sex and Poetry'' was also published by Satyr Verlag in 2023.

When Stef isn't talking about queerness or mental health, he's doing fun things like cleaning bathrooms, licking stamps or cutting peppers. At least on days when Stef manages to get out of bed.

The event series is supported by the City of Bochum, the Mülheim an der Ruhr Cultural Office, the Arcus Foundation and the Ruhr Regional Cultural Program of the Ministry of Art and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
