Community lecture by Nina Riedel

Hallucinogenic honey in the Himalayas, karaoke in Vietnam and palm wine escapades in Borneo: Nina Riedel started her first trip around the world in 2019 without any great expectations when she packed her backpack. Seeing something new, discovering exciting places and experiencing nature - that was the plan. But what began as a classic backpacker trip through Nepal, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia quickly turned into an adventurous search for real encounters away from the tourist routes.

Just a few months later, she celebrated the Chinese New Year with the indigenous Bahnar people in the Vietnamese highlands - with rice wine, rice cakes and cheerful karaoke interludes. It was the start of a journey that was characterized not only by countries, but above all by people.

From there, it was on to Malaysia, through the skyscraper city of Kuala Lumpur - including, of course, several rides on the world's longest water slide. Finally, Nina traveled to the island of Borneo and hitchhiked to the Malaysian-Indonesian border - deep into the green heart of Borneo to the indigenous Dayak Iban near the equator.

A talk about being on the road - with and without a plan, but always with an open heart. About spontaneous detours, unexpected encounters and the magic that happens when you really get involved. An invitation to rethink traveling - and perhaps to rediscover yourself a little.
