Rico, Oskar und die Tieferschatten

In the organizer's words:

Rico, eleven, is "deeply gifted" - he thinks well and a lot, but it always takes him a little longer than other people. And when he's excited, the thoughts in his head start to jumble around wildly. He lives with his mother at Dieffenbachstr. 93 in Berlin-Kreuzberg. When he meets Oskar one day, he quickly realizes that he is very different from him: highly gifted, but overprotective. Contrary to all expectations, the two become best friends. Suddenly Oskar disappears, and Rico suspects that the notorious kidnapper "Mister 2000" is involved. For better or for worse, Rico has to rise above himself and, along the way, unravels the mystery of the creepy deep shadow in the back house.

Andreas Steinhöfel was awarded the German Youth Book Prize and the Erich Kästner Prize for "Rico, Oskar und die Tieferschatten" in 2009.
