In Ottensen, which used to be dominated by factories, there are now a large number of cultural institutions. However, Ottensen's cultural life is not just a relic of the 20th and 21st centuries. Important personalities lived, worked and worked here centuries ago.

One of them was Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock (1724-1803), whose national-patriotic literature had a strong religious foundation and whose best-known work is the "Messiah".

Heinrich Heine, who was born six years before Klopstock's death, had an ambivalent attitude towards his national identity, which he also expressed in his probably most important work "Deutschland. On our leisurely walk, you will also gain an insight into the lives of two important writers and a composer whose family is still well-known in Ottensen today, but is not usually associated with music.
