Of strong women, pub functionaries, beepers, factory owners and the Altona Manifesto
The Osterkirchenviertel extends over several historic blocks of houses between Bahrenfelder Weg, the factory and the railroad embankment. This district is something very special in Ottensen, as it is a listed building ensemble. It is not only the buildings and streets that are protected, but also the life in this place: goodbye gentrification - this milieu can stay.
The history of this district is also remarkable. Many narrative strands from the period of industrialization, National Socialism and the post-war period can be brought together here. This gives us exciting insights into developments from 1840 to the present day.
We want to take a closer look at the people of the time: their needs, desires and goals, which led to the emergence of certain groups and classes. We will also take a look at the conflicts and frictions that arose between these groups. And of course we ask ourselves: is any of this still noticeable in Ottensen today?
We will focus on the following groups together:
The tour begins in the district archive, which is located in the building of the historic Feldtmann wire pen factory. From there, the tour continues to various stations in the Osterkirchen district and its outskirts.
Take a look at the sky and bring an umbrella if necessary - after all, Ottensen has been part of Hamburg since 1938!
