Rundgang: Straßennamen erzählen Geschichte

Streets are not naturally named as they are - their names are the result of contemporary and social discussions.

Early street names were given, for example, by the local guilds and craft businesses. Over time, more and more streets were named after (important and/or well-known) people or important events.

Street names reflect the world view, culture and power relations of the time.

Street names are therefore a central part of the culture of remembrance. They should serve as orientation aids that take into account geographical as well as cultural and socio-political aspects.

On our tour, we will visit streets whose names reflect the colonial past, the National Socialist era and industrialization.
