How can a fragmented, unreconciled world be made comprehensible so that it opens up to meaning again? The author Navid Kermani poses this question again and again in his texts, directing his gaze precisely to where political conflicts seem to extinguish the human. This question of reflecting on a world that has become intangible also occupies the theater. Eva Mattes and Roberto Ciulli take Kermani's texts as the starting point and compass for an expedition to question our present. This is the first time that two artistic personalities have met on stage whose unusual theater biographies have left their mark for almost sixty years and continue to do so today: Mattes has shaped the new German film since her first leading role in a feature film, was soon shooting with Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Werner Herzog, and later created milestones in German theater history with Peter Zadek, among others.

Roberto Ciulli, legendary director, founded the Mülheim Theater an der Ruhr in 1981, shaped German theater like no other, and later brilliantly challenged the old role attributions through his own work as an actor. Independently of each other, they both have a long dialog with Kermani and his work. Mattes and Ciulli encounter earlier and more recent texts from Kermani's novels and reportages, creating a scenic cosmos that seemingly abruptly juxtaposes personal impressions, dialogues and perspectives on the state of our world: A kaleidoscope of stories and scenes about birth and death, love, hate and mercy. The extraordinary constellation of Mattes, Ciulli and Kermani creates a very special evening: a passionate, yet tentative attempt to make the splinters of the world shine again.
