Every year, the "fifth season" begins on 11.11. and the bad joke competition is on the agenda.
And this is how it works: the participants in the competition are asked to make fun of each other and the rest of the audience with bad jokes. If there is laughter, no points are awarded; however, a jury will generously award points for embarrassed silence, silent bewilderment or head-shaking incomprehension. The jury is free to make its own decisions and can also change the criteria spontaneously; it is only accountable to itself, although it does have to discuss some of the points awarded with the experienced presenter Peter B.. The whole thing is livened up with some really bad music.
Why people voluntarily put themselves through all this could not be definitively answered by several participating observers. One assumption is that the title "Wiesbadener Rohrkrepierer", which the winner is allowed to wear until next year, is sufficient incentive for surviving such really really bad jokes. It's best to see for yourself.
Registration is not necessary, participants can register spontaneously on site.
