Schreib-Workshop Resistance | Werkstatt für autofiktionales Schreiben

In the organizer's words:

"You actually write about yourself in every text!" - Essen-born author and playwright Akın Emanuel Şipal is an expert in the art of autofictional writing. He sees his own experiences as material and combines them with fiction in his texts. The result is a completely new view of himself and his own surroundings.

This year, as part of our season opener, we are once again inviting people from the city with and without writing experience to a writing workshop lasting several days. With impulses from the author Akın Emanuel Şipal, you will create your own autofictional texts over three consecutive workshop days in response to our season motto "Resistance". What stories come to mind on the subject of "Resistance"? To what extent can writing be a form of resistance? Excerpts from the texts will be presented as part of our opening weekend on September 20, 2025 at 5 p.m. in Café Central.

Akın Emanuel Şipal is a playwright, screenwriter and film director. He studied film at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg and was an in-house author at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and Theater Bremen. He received the Audience Award at the Mülheim Theater Festival in 2022 for his play "Mutter Vater Land". He is the author of the musical evening "Istanbul" by Selen Kara, Torsten Kindermann and Akın Emanuel Şipal with songs by Sezen Aksu, which has been on stage at the Grillo Theater since December 2024. The writing workshop is a project of the City Dramaturgy of Schauspiel Essen and will be accompanied by Akın Emanuel Şipal and City Dramaturge Katharina Rösch.
