Book presentation and discussion

Science fiction is more than distraction, escapism and a hobby. Science fiction allows us to think freely about the possibilities and dangers that could arise from technology, science and environmental change and what the world would look like as a result. Science fiction combines fiction and research.

In their book "Science Fiction und Labour Fiction. Zukunftsvorstellungen von Arbeit und Arbeitskämpfen", Falko Blumenthal and Peter Seyfert present how science fiction can help us think about the working world of tomorrow. In it, the two authors combine different texts that take a science fiction perspective on topics such as trade unions and alternative work organizations, industrial action and wage labour. At the 2025/26 season opener, we will be talking to Peter Seyferth, Falko Blumenthal and political scientist and science fiction analyst Isabella Hermann about how visions of the future from Star Trek, Black Panther & Co. can help us develop a new utopia of work.
