AI vs. head
Who is better at getting to the heart of complex topics: man or machine? At the SAIL research network's Science Slam, young researchers compete against AI-supported avatars. With wit, knowledge and creative tools, they present topics relating to sustainable AI - from medical applications to social issues. In the end, it's not an algorithm that decides who has explained things better. It's you.
An offer developed by the network SAIL - Sustainable Life-Cycle of Intelligent Socio-Technical Systems (Bielefeld University, Paderborn University, HSBI, TH OWL), funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science NRW
This offer takes place as part of GENIALE 2025 - "KI und wir" - three themed months around artificial intelligence, organized by Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld in cooperation with Bielefeld University, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and other partners.
The complete program can be found at: www.wissenswerkstadt.de/geniale
Curious? We asked the people behind the program what you can expect and what they're all about:
What surprising things can participants learn about AI in this program?
Entertaining, but with an impact: The audience will experience that AI often seems smart - but is not always understandable. Errors in texts, images or content are not uncommon. It is also surprising how good science communication is not only based on data, but above all on language, humor and common sense.
Do participants need any prior knowledge or do they need to bring anything with them?
No, you don't need any prior knowledge - everyone is welcome, whether you already know something about AI or are just curious.
What are you researching or working on in AI?
SAIL is an interdisciplinary and cross-university research network. While today's AI systems usually focus on the introductory phase - i.e. training and adapting models using sample data - SAIL pursues a comprehensive life cycle approach. The aim is to develop sustainable AI for real application contexts that can be used in the long term. The project combines basic research, perspectives from the humanities and social sciences as well as specific fields of application such as Industry 4.0 and intelligent healthcare systems.
