Festival for design and democracy

What does design have to do with democracy? At the two-day festival, consisting of see-Conference and see-Camp, creative people from the fields of design, visual arts, architecture, performing arts and film will show how our participation in society is shaped by design. And this in the year 2026, when the Frankfurt Rhine-Main region will bear the title of World Design Capital under the motto "Design for Democracy".

The festival will kick off with the see-Conference on April 25, 2026 in Wiesbaden's Schlachthof, which is now in its 20th year of inviting international creatives from all sectors to Wiesbaden and has become one of the most important interdisciplinary design conferences in Germany. This year, for example, Tobias Trübenbacher, who has just been named "Newcomer Designer of the Year", the unconventional design team Holy Motors from Georgia and the animation artist Deveroe have already confirmed their participation. The highly acclaimed philosopher and author Eva von Redecker will open the conference with her keynote speech.

After the inspiring talks on Saturday, the see-Camp on April 26 will take a more practical approach: speakers from the see-Conference, committed experts and local initiatives will provide guidance on how to work towards democratic and sustainable coexistence. In the three thematic areas of design and art, public space and society, and nature and health, the aim is to creatively shape living spaces together - with concrete initiatives that will remain visible and tangible in Wiesbaden and the region beyond the day of the event.

The see-Conference is an essential part of the "World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026" program. Around 900 visitors are expected this year. An interactive exhibition and the subsequent party round off the program - as does the breaks program, which is popular among long-time see guests.
