Graphic novels, comics and cartoons offer a unique opportunity to convey complex content in an accessible way, often more easily than in pure text form, especially in the context of mental illness. They deal with psychosis, depression, delusional disorder, panic attacks, anxiety disorders, dementia, alcoholism, dealing with the suicide of a close relative, eating disorders or Asperger's autism, mental health or insights into psychiatry.
On display are the original works, selected excerpts and interesting information about the authors and their work.
The exhibition features works by over 20 renowned illustrators. In the works presented in the exhibition, a wide variety of characters provide insights into their mental lives. What is it like to live with a mental illness? How do relatives deal with it? In some cases, the authors' personal experiences are incorporated into the works.
