Sergio Bernal, who joined the Spanish National Ballet as a soloist in 2012, was promoted to first dancer in 2016. In September 2019, he left the Spanish National Ballet to found his own company together with Ricardo Cue. Together they created the production Una Noche con Sergio Bernal; the world premiere of his second production SER took place at the Teatros del Canal in Madrid in October 2020. You can tell from Sergio Bernal's dance language that Spanish dance is in his blood; he grew up with it and has grown within it. Spanish dance forms the backbone of the breathtaking dance spectacle SER, in which Sergio Bernal incorporates other music and dance styles and in which flamenco is surprisingly transformed into classical ballet or contemporary dance.
Bernal possesses elegance, nobility, class and a technical mastery that is evident in all his interpretations. When he follows in the footsteps of Fred Astaire or Michael Jackson, he is almost a pop magician and bears witness to his tremendous versatility. He hypnotizes his audience with irresistible magnetism and reveals all his vulnerability in intimate moments. Ricardo Cue has staged SER as a huge dance party, for which Sergio Bernal has gathered virtuoso allies around him, above all the impressive music ensemble Mundo Sonoro. In addition, José Manuel Benítez, Cristina Cazorla and the Argentinian Ana Sophia Scheller are absolutely on a par with Bernal in their technical perfection.
