"I was clearly just a wimp, a sad and insignificant wimp who was getting old to boot." Florent, a middle-aged man in an elevated position, has the irrefutable feeling that he has fallen into a trap with his entire existence. His relationship with the woman with whom he still shares an apartment has turned cold. He is deeply disappointed with his job. Western civilization, with its fetish for individualism and its capitalist logic of exploitation, seems to him like a machine for the destruction of love. Florent senses that it is time. Time for a radical change. So he quits his job and his apartment, stages his disappearance and sets off on a long winter journey in an off-road vehicle. In an unreserved stocktaking, he measures the highs and lows of his life to date.
Michel Houellebecq is currently considered France's most important and most controversial writer. His novel is a paean to love and a swan song to modern society. It shows a person in an absolutely extreme situation. Consequently, director Sebastian Hartmann also leaves the comfort zone of a normal evening at the theater with this production. In a radical experimental set-up, Guido Lambrecht puts his ego on the line as a performer and embarks on a painful, relentless search for biographical truthfulness. This takes time.
And so this extraordinary performance will ruthlessly go beyond the usual time frame of a theater performance! The audience will have the opportunity to take self-determined breaks in the foyer, have a drink at the bar and then immerse themselves again in the aesthetic cosmos of this evening.
