The two authors of the recently published book "Sgraffiti in Bremerhaven. In den Putz gekratzte Kunstwerke der Nachkriegszeit" (Sgraffiti in Bremerhaven. Works of art scratched into the plaster in the post-war period) present their findings on these works of art from the 1950s, many of which have now been destroyed. They show a world of new beginnings after the catastrophe of the Second World War: reconstruction, shipping and the world of "normal people" depicted as art on buildings. In addition to looking forward, this also includes the painful memories of displacement and the renaissance of classic gender roles in the post-war period. Many of these fragile works of scratch plaster have been destroyed over time and will be scientifically classified and art-historically analyzed in this lecture.
