Dark Wave / Synth Pop concert at KESSELHAUS
She Past Away, as we said at their last concert at our venue, are a pretty sensational goth rock/bat cave duo from Bursa in Turkey. Vocally, think of singer Volkan Caner as the illegitimate son of Elvis Presley and Alan Vega, who distils only the best of Sisters Of Mercy or Fields Of The Nephilim (for that matter), Grauzone, (early) The Cure and DAF on the basis of wonderfully milling wave guitars, echoed phaser or octave bass, lilting synth pads and reverberated electric drums. Needless to say, Caner sings in Turkish, wonderful minimalist poetry, overwhelmingly good. Everything about this band. Which, by the way, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
But while we're on the subject of shredding wave guitars: Anyone who leaves an album by Calling Dead Red Roses with the author of these lines at the entrance will receive Free admission to all goth concerts of the year. We also wrote this on the occasion of their last shows in 2017, 2019 and 2024. Hasn't worked out so well so far. Another chance for you, dear CD owner. Also great: Dortmund fogwave duo Isla Ola with their minimal/synth/cold wave machine sound. They were also last seen here with She Past Away. Some evenings you just want to experience again and again - with new music.
