Show`n`Talk - Nagelritz: Demokratie in Havarie?

In the organizer's words:

Pirates elected their captain, but how do you become captain of Germany and is our form of government any good? How often do we end up not in the bar with the best beer, but in the one with the biggest neon sign? The greatest threat to democracy is right-wing extremism and populism, according to 30 percent of people in Germany.

20% say that the most dangerous thing for democracy is the dysfunctional actions of politicians, institutions, administration and authorities (source: Statista). Incidentally, satisfaction with the functioning of democracy is particularly low in Bremerhaven, as the employee survey conducted by the Chamber of Employees in 2025 showed: While 40 percent of respondents living in Bremen are satisfied with the functioning of democracy, the proportion in Bremerhaven is only 26 percent. However, almost all respondents emphasized the importance of democratic elections.

What about democracy? "Demo" comes from the ancient Greek demos and means people, and cracy can be turned into "crazy" with a little dyslexic willpower. So are we well on the way to madness with democracy and are we all part of the crew of a ship of fools?
