Trygve Wakenshaw (NZL): Silly Little Things

Trygve Wakenshaw shows once again why he is considered a pioneer of modern clown art. His precise physical comedy combines subtle irony with great, childlike wonder, creating space for boundless imagination.

Using gestures, facial expressions and the fascinating agility of his body alone, the New Zealand mime transforms the empty stage at Maschinenhaus Essen into a wide variety of settings: sometimes a living room, sometimes a nightclub, even a whole magician's show conjured up by Wakenshaw from his (imaginary) hat. Including rabbits.

Trygve Wakenshaw's stories about the "little things in life" are hilarious, touching, playful and Dadaist. But here, all the seemingly banal becomes a spectacle. Every detail becomes slapstick madness and the traditional art of pantomime is thoroughly dusted off!
