Skandinavien - Norwegen, Schweden und Finnland

In the organizer's words:

Lecture by Sandra Butscheike and Steffen Mender

Midnight sun and polar night, wild untouched landscapes, rugged coastlines, picturesque fjords, thousands of lakes, romantic forests, unique wildlife, Sami culture and impressive cities with Nordic flair. All this is what makes Scandinavia so magical.

Sandra Butscheike and Steffen Mender have been drawn to the far north again and again for many years. For their new presentation, the photographers and filmmakers spent a whole year traveling in Norway, Sweden and Finland in all seasons.

They accompanied the oldest passenger ship in the world along the Göta Canal and drove their VW bus up the Norwegian coast to the Lofoten Islands and the North Cape.
The two enjoyed the unique flair of the Scandinavian cities and were able to observe bears, musk oxen and moose in the wild. In Finland, the duo attended the Women's Carrying World Championships, a very special kind of world championship.
In Lapland, the two were given an insight into the art of knife-making by a German emigrant. A week-long canoe tour took them through the island labyrinth of the Saimaa region.

The pair also laced up their hiking boots several times and explored Jotunheimen and Senja on extended day trips. The duo hiked 140 kilometers through the untouched landscapes of Padjelanta National Park in the far north of Sweden. Ruska is probably the most beautiful time for hiking. Trees, shrubs, mosses and lichens shine in the most beautiful autumn colors.

Scandinavia is particularly impressive in winter. We spent a week on dog sleds through the snow-covered mountains of the Kungsleden.
The photojournalists also spent many days with a Sami family and learned a lot about their culture and reindeer herding.

North of the Arctic Circle, the polar night creates very special light moods.
From September to March, goosebumps are guaranteed when the Northern Lights dance across the sky.

With impressive images, video sequences and drone footage, Sandra Butscheike and Steffen Mender provide an insight into the unique diversity of Scandinavia.
