Lecture with expedition leader Martin Kaiser
Socotra - an island as if from another planet. Barely known, biologically unique and politically and geographically isolated, it lies in the Indian Ocean, south of Yemen and in the extension of the Horn of Africa. Often referred to as the "Galápagos of the Indian Ocean", Socotra is a place full of secrets - untouched, barely explored and difficult to access.
It is precisely such remote and extraordinary places that magically attract Martin Kaiser. Born in Landshut, he is the founder of the expedition community ExpeditionXplore and has been traveling the world as an expedition leader for many years. His travels have already taken him to Mongolia, Armenia, Sweden, Kamchatka and Patagonia - and also to Socotra.
In his presentation, Martin will take you on a 10-day trekking expedition through a world that could hardly be more diverse. Together with his crew of eight, he crossed the island twice on foot - from the south coast via the central highlands with the highest peak Skant to the north coast - and back again in the east of the island. Along the way, they encountered breathtaking landscapes in a density that Martin had never experienced before: from barren high plateaus and palm-fringed wadis to bizarre dragon's blood trees and white sandy beaches.
In addition to the impressive experiences on the island, Martin also provides exciting insights behind the scenes of an expedition: from route planning and logistical challenges to the responsibility he bears as expedition leader for his team.
A lecture for all those who love the unknown - and who are ready to mentally embark on a journey to one of the last unexplored regions of the world.
