About the museum

The Bonsai Museum Düsseldorf displays one of the most diverse collections of bonsai in Germany - with impressive trees from Japan, China and Europe. Bonsai are presented as living works of art in a tranquil garden atmosphere - some are over 100 years old.

The museum is run by a non-profit association. For many years, it has been dedicated to the care, promotion and communication of bonsai culture and aims to inspire visitors with the beauty and depth of this centuries-old art form.

What is bonsai?

"Bonsai" (Japanese for "tree in a bowl") refers to the art of developing living trees in miniature form through pruning, wiring and shaping. The focus is not on miniaturization, but on the conscious creation of a natural tree image on a small scale - with respect, patience and a keen sense of aesthetics.
