Theodore Twombly is a shy and introverted man who has completely withdrawn into his shell after his divorce. He lives out his feelings vicariously in his job by writing touching letters for his clients - a gift that is increasingly forgotten at the time. His loneliness only comes to an end when he installs a new operating system that is not only capable of learning, but also adapts itself individually to its user. The lonely man feels increasingly drawn to Samantha, the voice from the virtual world. (v.f.)
