The German-French singer Sophie Wegener has dedicated herself entirely to bossa nova, the music that conquered the whole world from Brazil in the late 1950s and which somehow sounds more cosmopolitan than almost any other. Whether in New York, Tokyo or Paris, it has fans everywhere and is associated with a certain upbeat, slightly melancholy attitude to life.

This is also what Sophie Wegener's new program "Encontros e despedidas" (Encounters and Farewells) is all about: with great emotions and cheerfully relaxed to bittersweet compositions by Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso or Chico Buarque, she embarks on a journey back to her musical roots and meets loyal companions: pianist Tizian Jost and bassist Matthias Engelhardt, who recorded three albums with her as part of Sophie's band "Zona Sul".

As a trio, they are celebrating a reunion today and celebrating the music that inspires them so much. And even if Sophie Wegener takes center stage as the singer, there is always enough room for her virtuoso accompanists to delight the audience with numerous solos.
