SPECIAL SCREENING: Dokumentarfilm "DIE MÖLLNER BRIEFE" mit Regiegespräch

In the organizer's words:
Special screening of the documentary film "Die Möllner Briefe" by Martina Priessner as part of the Hessian Documentary Film Festival.
In attendance and followed by a discussion with the director.
The racist arson attack in Mölln on November 23, 1992 took everything from İbrahim Arslan and his family. Neo-Nazis carried out arson attacks on two houses inhabited by families of Turkish origin. Although seven-year-old İbrahim survived, he lost his sister, his cousin and his grandmother. The town of Mölln then received hundreds of letters of solidarity, but these went unheeded for almost thirty years. The film follows İbrahim as he discovers these letters and meets three of their senders. At the same time, it paints a multi-layered picture of the ongoing trauma that continues to burden İbrahim and his siblings to this day. İbrahim has found his own way of dealing with what happened: He is actively involved in the fight against racism and is committed to a culture of remembrance that focuses on the victims. His brother Namik, on the other hand, is still in the early stages of coming to terms with the events.
The film not only sheds light on the experiences of the survivors, but also reveals the great solidarity that existed at the time - a solidarity that the victims were previously unaware of. It creates a link between past and present and adopts a perspective of remembrance that gives the voices of those affected the space and appreciation they deserve.
The documentary celebrated its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama section and won the Amnesty Film Prize and the Panorama Audience Award.
Press reviews:
"DIE MÖLLNER BRIEFE is a movie that hurts. A movie that makes you angry. And a film that gives hope at the same time - because it shows that there are people who fight back against forgetting."(taz.de)
"The film wins the Amnesty Film Prize because it shows what humanity can achieve in dark times. In today's world, where many feel so helpless, it shows how a very small gesture - writing a letter - can make a big difference to those affected." (Amnesty jury statement)
