Due to the one-China policy and diplomatic pressure from the People's Republic of China, Taiwan is only considered independent by a few states and is therefore unable to establish officially recognized embassies in countries such as Germany. Stefan Kaegi, known for his documentary theater projects, usually works together with experts and is now presenting a play with three diplomats from Taiwan, who each represent different perspectives on their country's foreign policy in the setting of a fictitious embassy with lots of images and music. The previous research on this project was already presented at SPIELART in 2023 as part of the WHEN MEMORIES MEET program line - in a talk with co-curator Betty Yi-Chun Chen and the founder of the Digital Diplomacy Association Taipei, Chiayo Kuo, who is now on stage as a performer. After intensive discussions with diplomats, historians and semiconductor engineers, the theater opens up a space of possibility in which contradictory positions can stand side by side and make visible the multi-layered history of a country in between.
