SPIELART Festival: Umuko

In the organizer's words:

31 years ago, when the Hutu genocide against the Tutsi took place in Rwanda, Dorothée Munyaneza left her home country to live in London. But she keeps coming back to listen to those who, aware of the past, culture and tradition, want to shape the Rwanda of tomorrow. Together with five young Rwandan artists, she conjures up the spirit of a tree with vermilion flowers: UMUKO, guardian of ancestors and memories, a link between past, present and future. With traditional instruments such as the zither-like inanga, as well as contemporary and traditional dances and Rwandan songs, a lyrical evening between music and dance performance is created that celebrates the creativity, courage and freedom of a new generation. One of these young performers is the artist Cedric Mizero, whose work UMUNYANA will be shown at Einstein Kultur as part of SPIELART.
