In the organizer's words:

"Spiegelneuronen" is an experiment, a new one in every performance. It is about the human brain and its relationship to the body. The audience is an essential part of this experiment: invited not only to observe dance movement, but to move themselves - as an active part of a shared system, as part of a large brain.

A mirror replaces the stage. It reflects not only the dancers, but - like a gigantic selfie - the entire stage including the audience. The auditorium becomes the main place of action. In exchange with the dancers, the audience becomes the center of the movement, embodies images and contributes to the choreography. Through the mirror, the spectators observe themselves and others as they observe the experiment of which they are the center.

The documentary research incorporates perspectives from brain research, biology, sociology and AI - tangible in a sound collage that is heard, experienced, perhaps even anticipated or undermined. In this theatrical experiment, the relationship between the individual and the greater whole invites physical reflection on society, on a democratic version of a hyperorganism.

"Spiegelneuronen" is the first collaboration between Sasha Waltz & Guests and director Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll). The Berlin dance company is thus continuing its openness to new styles and its interest in artistic research and cross-genre collaboration with international artists.
