„Stimme aus der Ferne“ – Clara und Robert Schumanns junge Liebe

To mark the 185th wedding anniversary of Clara and Robert Schumann, the Vienna-based Romanian pianist Cătălina Butcaru's concert project paints a multifaceted picture of the phase when the two lovers - still separated and far apart - could only exchange letters in secret. For years, they fight for Clara's father's consent to their marriage and write countless letters every day.

The actress Claudia Hübbecker reads atmospheric passages from letters written between 1838 and 1840, which correspond with piano pieces by both Schumanns from this period. Piano music in which the fiancés refer to each other musically in a highly subtle way and thus secretly send messages of love. The "voice from afar" can still be heard today: as a touching quotation from Robert in his eighth Novellette from op. 21 of Clara's Nocturne in F major.

Cătălina Butcaru (piano) and Claudia Hübbecker (recitation) take you into the exciting world of the most famous musician couple before their long-awaited marriage.

The event is a cooperation between the Heinrich Heine Institute Düsseldorf, the Schumann House Düsseldorf and the Clara Schumann Initiative Düsseldorf.
