The STORY KARAOKE BAR is a collective exercise in listening and storytelling. In this bar, it's not songs that are served, but stories that city dramaturge Sophia Maria Keßen has collected exclusively for the Dresden premiere at the Societaetstheater: Secrets, love stories, happy-ever-after tales, really good misunderstandings, embarrassments, encouraging fables and stories about loneliness and community in the big city. Everything the bar has to offer is on the menu. Choose, get set, go: step up to the mic! Forget your shame! Get out of the monologue - connect with your city while telling stories! The tender bartenders will help if needed. The DJ is well prepared. Drinks and microphones are provided for everyone.
The STORY KARAOKE BAR is a location-specific format in which guests speak the words and stories of other previously interviewed people from the neighborhood into a microphone and thus continue the story. In a group of strangers, the borrowed and shared narrative creates a connection that is quite something.
Sophia Maria Keßen works as a freelance theater maker in Berlin. She deals with the staging of collective processes of storytelling. One of her main concerns is the visualization of polyphonic opinions and perspectives on various topics, which she gains through interviews with people from the city. She explores biographical-documentary staging strategies, likes to involve karaoke, chance, drinks and dilettantism as artistic means and works scenically, interactively and installatively.
