Once disreputable, now absolutely hip: Munich's Au district has transformed from a social hotspot to a popular trendy neighborhood. On our journey through time, you will immerse yourself in wild stories from back then, when the hangman thought that the Au was practically a big city in its own right, so many cases ended up with him.

We check out the house where Karl Valentin was born, discover the old Pöppel orphanage, walk to an island with a surprising industrial history and take a look inside an impressive Art Nouveau spa, which used to be less spa than pure necessity.

In short: history that doesn't feel like a textbook, but like real Munich.
